I installed 4.9 in two instances of DNN with no hitches, but on a third instance I received the following error:

"A critical error has occurred.
Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Inetpub\vhosts\skipikespeak.com\httpdocs\Install\Temp\beg5yg0r\Forum.dnn'."

Any ideas how to resolve this issue?

This could happend on corrupt folder permissions.  You should check it.

What are corrupt file permissions?  Which folder or folders would you suggest checking?

maybe try the root folder and all child folders. Make sure IIS and NETWORK SERVICE have full permission. When you apply the permission make sure you select to update all child folders and files. If its already set with those permissions you may want to uncheck, apply, then check and apply to make sure all folders are reset with correct permissions.

A corrupt install can make it that you have to restore a complete database and file backup. But beta versions should not be used on a production environment.  Test beta versions on a sandbox.

About the physical permissions:
The IIS annonymous user must have read and the applicationpool user must have full permissions to all dnn files and folders.  On a local system the applicationpool user is on default the newtwork service.  On hostings the most ISP used a own application pool user for each hosting the name could then be different.
