Part of the skinning conversion will pave the way to remove some module settings. Things such as image extension for themes, the settings to render the icon bar as links or images, and I am sure others will be removed and offloaded to the skin design via skin objects. I understand that not all settings can do this, because administrator using A-Skin may want to hide the website address, while another administrator on a seperate site using A-Skin may want to expose this.

Keeping that in mind, where do we draw the line in allowing the designer to determine functionality? I have my own thoughts about this running through my head but wanted to get the opinion of others.

Ideally, we should allow as many skin settings as we can in the forum administration - without overly burdening the skin developer.  This would give us maximum flexibility for the user of the skin. I guess this seems obvious.  We should avoid making decisions on functionality based on the skin design.  Do you have a list of items that you are considering off-loading to skin design?

Image extension is a "no-brainer" - although I'm not sure about sure about links/icons.  This seems like a preference that might be a personal preference of the site administrator - versus the skin designer.  It might be useful to have a flag in the package XML file that defines whether or not icons are *available* for a particular skin - that way there are no error during parsing.  Could you set the admin page possibility based on this flag?  (ie: if the option is avalabile then the admin page allows the possible selection?)

Cheers!
